‘We need more DPS to [RAID]’ is a small raid guild whose aim is to build a team that works and learns together to play the raids and eventually be able to clear the wings regularly. We would like occasions to play and laugh in a group where we feel comfortable. We want to do challenging content in good company and progress while being aware that real life comes first.
Maturity: Willingness to learn, share and listen, especially when - as so often happens - things are not going smooth.
identify the problem(s) - what’s is going wrong (are we missing greens, dodges, etc)
work on a solution - how can we correct it reasonably: change builds, change gear, offer individual help, what can you personally do to solve the problem?
Progress: While we only want to do this in nice company, the raid content is far from the usual laid back GW2 gameplay. It requires commitment, time and energy invested to make it work reliably on the longer run.
Patience: Keep in mind we are at different skill levels, try not to get discouraged or upset when we don’t succeed when you want or think we should. There will be setbacks, it takes time to build a team, not just gather around a bunch of people. I (and I hope everyone here) believes that people are here because they are interested in raids and want to succeed while committed enough to work for it. Our time and commitment certainly differs, our lives and personalities differ too and we all have our own pace of learning. This is much easier to understand when you understand the person behind the character and not only see the “tempest/necro/mesmer/etc who always goes down”.
Commitment: Our main organisational tool is the forum (and the linked spreadsheets): the builds (will) go up, links to guides are there and the signups are connected to the forum too. Please make sure to check it ever so often, I’ll point out if big changes/important topics are up.
Competency: Do your own best. This is your best, not the world's best. Everyone can have bad days, not being able to concentrate, and so on. It's fine. As long as you respect the other people's time, communicate accordingly and do what you can at that time, it's understandable and acceptable.
Have fun: fun is different for everyone. If you find that our guild/runs are not fitting for you for any reason, then please consider another group for your raids. As long as you find an aspect that makes these runs with us fun for you and let it be fun for the team, it’s all good.
Sacrifice of firstborn offspring: This requirement will be rescinded for any member who can present proof of having read the guild rules. Asking for the firstborn offspring requirement to be rescinded is accepted in lieu of such proof.
Ingame requirements
Raid ready characters: you are somewhat experienced on it, and know the profession mechanics
Gear:
Accepted minimum: exotic armour with ascended weapons and trinkets (with the exception of healer roles, there full exotic is the minimum).
Ideal: full ascended gear
Ascended armour is not required but if you want to go for it, sure. For the guild’s ‘greater good’ it’s better to have 2 professions/roles available in exotic armour+ascended trinkets/weapon, than one with full ascended.
TS: have to have access to TS, microphone isn’t required but welcome.
Roles: roles are different, someone can be experienced in tanking and will fail on greens if they never run it - different skillset, play styles, probably builds or professions even - needs to get used to and needs to be learned. Experience in one or two roles on a boss doesn’t make it an all around experience (but it surely helps).
If in learning phase better to bring a profession one is familiar with and try to adjust it the best to the team’s needs than trying to run a fairly inexperienced profession in a totally new situation.
It’s rarely that we fail due to pure lack of DPS. We fail because we fail the mechanics and that causes DPS loss: when 3 people ressing a downed player, that’s 4 player doing no DPS. Quoting a classic: dead mage deals no damage.
Builds: Being aware that raid needs specific skills regarding each profession and everyone is expected to use these - there are standard builds you can run but more importantly there are certain aspects of most of the professions you are required to run, to maximise team efficiency, as in this case team DPS overrides personal DPS.
Thus please if you are not running the “standard” builds/gears for any reason (experimenting, having a build that fits you better and so on) try to give as much information about it as you can: explanation/build template/gear so the team can adjust to you if needed and agreed.
There won’t ever be a rule of ‘you must run this or that build’, but keep in mind, to be successful we do need working team/builds.
The best is to discuss about these, explaining what or why is needed, so everyone understands. There are guidelines posted about what unique things can be brought to the table by what professions - please read these, as they are a game changer most of the times.
If any of these happen the person will be talked to and asked about their reasons and if it’s a recurring thing, will be asked to leave.
Raging: If you can’t control your disappointment, anger and frustration please see a professional. We are not dealing with such things here.
Passive-aggressive behaviour or insulting: This should be pretty straightforward, right?
Negative elitism in general:‘you/people need to play better’ yes, we need to, but it’s not happening by waving a magic wand, but by knowing what to do, when to do it and how and even then it needs practice. Telling people they need to play better is devaluing them and at the same time giving the message you yourself play perfectly, which is in most cases isn’t the fact. Some guild members are more skilled and/or having more experience or are more versed in the mechanics of the game, yes. Yet, nobody is an untouchable expert or a superior person to others.
Not considering to change when it’s needed: This seems straightforward but in my experience it might not be. As our skill and experience differs so does our own opinion of it and that’s all right.
There is perfect damage rotation in theory, but I’d wager most of us are not at that level that we can execute it properly every single time. There is to learn for everyone, so you are expected to be open to suggestions. When asked: what can we do to help/avoid this situation, try to see where you have difficulties, avoid stating that is impossible. There are very few instances when there is no space for improvement.
When someone often gets down during the fight it’s mostly that someone doing something wrong - might be due lack of experience, might be due lack of certain mechanics knowledge. The point is to learn/practice but please try to be self questioning first before feeling the needs to point out it’s someone else’s fault.
If you feel you would like to belong to our guild, please read the pointers below and post an application accordingly.
After posting the application you will be informed via these forums if the guild found your application a good match. This is mainly about if you fit in well into the guild. We try to keep DPS RAID a friendly guild with like-minded people, so if your application is refused, it's not meant to say we found you a bad player or person.
Upon accepting the application (moving onto "Stage 2") someone will notify you via your application thread and you will receive an invitation into the guild as a new recruit.
This way you can be part of the organising, where you can meet the guild, and the guild can meet you. If these meetings turn out to be good, you will be promoted into raider. Please accept that we may need time and several occasions for this in-game trial to reach a decision.
